RIVER CRUISE TIPS #16: GET TO KNOW YOUR ONBOARD CREW(YOU WON’T BE SORRY)
I know. Obvious, right?
But I watch travelers onboard river cruises.
Many walk right by the cruise director without hardly a smile.
Others don’t bother to learn waiters’ names and can’t remember what the piano player looks like.
These people are missing out.
You can have some very unexpected fun onboard if you let your guard down. You’ll see.
Expect holiday cheer on a Christmas Markets cruise.
Learn Serbian traditions from your bartender.
And, delight in some unexpected Halloween tricks if you’re lucky.
A HALLOWEEN SAIL
Last October, friends of mine were on a river cruise in France.
They expected gorgeous scenery, quaint French villages, and delicious cuisine on their cruise.
To their surprise and delight, they were also treated to some staff mischief for Halloween.
Ordering a drink on this sail? Watch out for eyeballs.
As my friend chatted with his tablemates, his server quietly dropped a surprise in his drink.
When he went to take a sip, something was staring back at him.
His server knew him well enough to know that he would enjoy this type of humor.
An eyeball also appeared on another guest’s dessert plate, so you never know where they will end up.
But, my favorite story was the chef storming out of the kitchen wielding knives in a fake blood spattered apron.
The shenanigans are all in good fun and never get out of hand.
But, if you’re too busy staring at your IPAD, you’ll miss it all.
So, take the time to chat to the crew onboard. It will add an extra element of fun to your trip. You won’t be sorry.
So, what about you? What are your favorite memories from your river cruise staff? Please share. I’d love to hear about them!
(Thank you March and Sheila for sharing your stories and pictures with me. I really appreciate it!)
