2-Minute Tip + A Bonus Tip
2017 brings a new feature to River Cruise Joy – The “2-minute” travel tip for river cruisers.
Each tip offers helpful advice, insider information, and can be read in 2 minutes or less.
You’ll finally be able to cut the internet clutter from your life when searching for tips about river cruising. You’re welcome.
Now, let’s get started:
Tip #1: Choose the Itinerary before You Choose the River Cruise Line
If you do nothing else, do this.
Don’t get caught up on the different bells and whistles of each cruise ship until you know where you want to go.
Yes, river cruising is about the journey, but you need to know where you want to go before you think about how to get there.
Take the Danube River, for example.
Sailing on the Danube is one of the most popular trips, especially for first-time river cruisers. But each itinerary is different so you need to think about what you want to do.
Do you want to bike along the Wachau Valley?
Do you want to sit in Courtroom 600 where the Nuremberg trials took place?
Maybe you’d like to see Bratislava, where your favorite great-uncle was raised.
Surely, all Danube sailings stop here. Not true–some sail right on by.
Choose the itinerary, then compare the cruise line. You will be a much happier cruiser when you follow this tip.
Bonus Tip: Don’t Simply Look to See if your “Must See” City is Listed on the Itinerary.
Make sure you will be in port long enough to visit the sites important to you. For instance, it’s impossible to see everything in Vienna in one day.
If you don’t mind, then 1 day is fine here.
But, if you want more time, choose an itinerary that overnights in Vienna.
Even better, pick an itinerary that ends in Vienna and opt to spend a few extra days after the sailing.
Hint: If you extend your stay, hire a private car and driver for your Vienna sightseeing. You won’t be sorry!
Now, this post only took 1 minute, 45 seconds to read. Yes, I timed it. I know, I’m a nerd.
