RIVER CRUISE TIPS #14: HOW TO TRANSPORT WINE (OR SNOW GLOBES) ON A PLANE

I detest shopping when I’m at home. It’s such a chore.

But, I love to bring special items back from my travels. Something will no doubt catch my eye on every trip.

The last time I shopped the Christmas Markets in Vienna I brought back an adorable handmade ornament for a friend.

The most beautiful snow globes were on display close to where I bought my friend’s gift.

I decided against the snow globe purchase. I didn’t feel like dealing with the hassle of transporting them on the plane.

You see, I’m one of those that assumes the worst.

What if the customs agent jostles my bag too much?

My favorite shirt will be soiled with snow globe glop.

But, I have been thinking about those snow globes for 2 years now. And, I’ve been kicking myself for not buying them.

On this same trip, I found a wonderful bottle of wine that I wanted to bring home for my husband.

Yet again, I wasn’t prepared for the transport of the bottle and I wasn’t interested in the risk of wine stains on my clothes.

(I hate shopping, remember?)

BOTTLE PROTECTOR

I go back to the Christmas Markets in November.

But this time, I’m prepared.

I’m testing out the bottle protectors by Bee Smart Gear. I purchased a set from Amazon, which will be enough for my wine and snow globe gifts.

I am stoked.

Yes, I know you can ship items.

But, I want the instant gratification of popping open my suitcase and handing out my treasured gifts. There’s a beauty in that I think.

And, I know the snow globes are probably packed well enough in their boxes.

I will have to trust the packaging for the larger snow globes. But, my smaller ones can fit in my bottle protectors if needed.

And, that makes me happy.

SNOW GLOBES

Did you know that snow globes were invented in Vienna? Watch the video. You won’t be sorry. I will be on the hunt for this exact stall at the Vienna Christmas Market in November.

FYI – In case you’re wondering, Bee Smart Gear didn’t pay me for this post. I find their products helpful and wanted to share the love. You’re welcome.
